Caputo estudió tres años de Ingeniería en informática en la Universidad de la Defensa Nacional, pero la dejó para meterse a estudiar Ciencia Política en la Universidad de Buenos Aires. Llegó a La Libertad Avanza de la mano de su amigo, el legislador y excandidato a jefe de Gobierno porteño, Ramiro Marra: ambos cursaban el secundario en el Colegio Belgrano de la Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires, otro vínculo que conserva de aquella época es el legislador Eugenio Casielles.
Se sumó a la campaña como candidato a diputado de Javier Milei en 2021 y, lentamente, se transformó en el asesor en comunicación política más valorado por el economista ultraliberal.
Los vínculos y nexos de Caputo con el PRO son inocultables: es hijo del ex presidente de Colegio de Escribanos de la ciudad de Buenos Aires, Claudio Caputo, sobrino de Nicolás “Nicky” Caputo, el dueño de la tecnológica Mirgor y “amigo del alma” del expresidente Macri. Además, también es sobrino de Luis “Toto” Caputo, el exministro de Finanzas macrista, a quien apodaban como “el Messi de las finanzas” y terminó su gestión con un vacío de dólares de las reservas.
Ahora Caputo forma parte de la mesa chica del presidente electo, a tal punto que fue el único dirigente de su entorno al que mencionó con nombre y apellido en su primer discurso como presidente electo, incluso antes que a Victoria Villarruel, la vicepresidenta electa. “Quiero agradecerle a ese gigante que me ha acompañado a lo largo de todo ese proceso. Sus primeros pasos como consultor político fueron de la mano del gurú Jaime Durán Barba, al que sí se acercó a partir de “contactos”. Allí conoció a Santiago Nieto y Roberto Zapata, dos hombres del PRO que trabajaron de cerca en la campaña de Cambiemos en 2015.
