El municipio bandeño refuerza en la Concientización sobre el Abuso y Maltrato a la Vejez
La Oficina del Adulto Mayor de la Municipalidad de la ciudad de La Banda, en el marco del “Mes de la Concientización sobre el Abuso y Maltrato en la Vejez”, lanzó una campaña destinada a destacar los derechos de los adultos mayores y crear conciencia sobre su situación.
La iniciativa, que comenzó el primer día de junio, buscando promover la libertad, independencia y capacidad de aprendizaje de los adultos mayores, así como fomentar su acceso a servicios y protección.
El principal objetivo de la campaña es destacar los derechos de los adultos mayores en términos de libertad para realizar actividades, independencia y la capacidad de llevar a cabo trámites. También se enfatiza su derecho a aprender y adaptarse a las nuevas tecnologías, como realizar pagos desde la comodidad de su hogar, algo que para algunos puede resultar sencillo, pero que representa una gran conquista para los mayores. Además, se les recomienda cuidarse del frío, especialmente durante el invierno, ya que son más propensos a enfermedades bronquiales; se busca eliminar el temor al diagnóstico y al resultado médico, fomentando la visita al médico en caso de problemas en los bronquios.
El respeto a la intimidad también es un aspecto importante que se destaca en la campaña, se enfatiza el derecho del adulto mayor a visitar al médico solo, si así lo desea, y a tener privacidad durante su consulta. Se subraya la importancia de que los profesionales de la salud se dirijan directamente al adulto mayor, en lugar de dirigirse a sus acompañantes, ya que el adulto mayor sigue siendo capaz de entender y participar en su propia atención médica.
En cuanto a los maltratos, desde la oficina se señala que se han recibido numerosos casos de abandono de personas mayores, donde la familia los deja en situaciones de vulnerabilidad. En estos casos, se hace un llamado a las familias y a la comunidad para que defiendan los derechos de los adultos mayores y los asistan en las tareas que ya no pueden realizar por sí mismos. Se destaca que, aunque el adulto mayor pueda necesitar ayuda en ciertas áreas, no debe haber abandono ni privación de su dignidad y derechos. Se resalta la importancia de recordar todo lo que los adultos mayores han hecho por nosotros y cómo nos han apoyado, y cómo ahora nos corresponde asistirlos en su etapa de la tercera edad.
Lamentablemente, se menciona que existen situaciones de violencia en diferentes formas, como la económica, psicológica y física, siendo esta última la más preocupante. Se reciben denuncias de maltrato físico y psicológico hacia los adultos mayores, y se destaca la necesidad de una respuesta más rápida y efectiva de la justicia para proteger a este grupo vulnerable. A pesar de la lentitud de la justicia, se menciona que se brinda asistencia a través de la policía, “Alerta Banda” y la fiscalía.
En cuanto a los servicios ofrecidos por la oficina, se destaca el trabajo en coordinación con el Centro de Atenciones Médicas Municipales (CAMM) y con PAMI. Se brinda información sobre los médicos disponibles en cada centro y se asesora a los adultos mayores sobre cómo cambiar su médico de cabecera si así lo desean. También se colabora en la obtención de medicamentos y elementos ortopédicos a través de PAMI. Además, se realizan talleres informativos para que los adultos mayores estén informados sobre ciertos problemas de salud y se les anima a buscar atención médica ante cualquier duda.
Cabe destacar, que la oficina también se dedica a realizar actividades recreativas y planean reunirse con los centros para coordinar futuros talleres, teniendo en cuenta las necesidades y deseos de los adultos mayores.
