En realidad, a pesar de que su hijo sí participó en el conflicto bélico, Beau murió de cáncer cerebral en 2015. El extraño episodio provocó reacciones de altos funcionarios y de usuarios en las redes sociales.
El hijo mayor de Biden sirvió como reservista en la Guardia Nacional del Ejército de Delaware y recibió una Estrella de Bronce por su servicio en Irak. Sin embargo, su muerte ocurrió años después de finalizar su servicio en la guerra.
En 2013, Beau Biden fue diagnosticado con glioblastoma multiforme en el MD Anderson Cancer Center de la Universidad de Texas, en Houston. Dos años después, tras atravesar un tratamiento de quimioterapia y radioterapia que únicamente mantuvo el cáncer en remisión, fue admitido en el Centro Médico Militar Nacional Walter Reed, en Maryland, donde falleció el 30 de mayo de 2015.

Esta nueva confusión de Biden se suma a una larga lista de fallos que generan preocupación. El mes pasado, el líder estadounidense reconoció que mintió sobre haber sido arrestado cuando intentaba ver a Nelson Mandela.
También, en julio afirmó que tenía cáncer de piel por los efectos de la contaminación ambiental. Sin embargo, un informe de su médico Kevin O’Connor publicado a finales de 2021 constató que “no hay áreas sospechosas de cáncer de piel en este momento”.
Otra afirmación que hizo hace unas semanas y generó preocupación es que aseguró que entró en el Senado del país “hace 720 años”.
Otro episodio ocurrió cuando las cámaras lo capturaron extendiendo su mano para saludar a personas inexistentes. También, a finales de septiembre, se dirigió durante una conferencia en la Casa Blanca a la congresista Jackie Walorski, quien había fallecido el mes anterior en un accidente de tráfico, y preguntó si se encontraba en la sala.
